Small Groups
Purpose of Small Groups
Small groups are intentional efforts to create an atmosphere that causes people to grow in their understanding and application of God's direction for their lives.
Small groups help create Biblical community.
Throughout the Bible, community is a theme. God has always been calling out a people for Himself, beginning with His first creation and continuing with Israel and the New Testament church. Even when the Jews were dispersed among enemy nations during times of captivity, they organized themselves into groups and ultimately formed synagogues, where they could serve one another and carry out their beliefs.
In Acts 2, the first century church met in temple courts (Sunday morning worship) and in house to house (home group) settings. These new church communities began as small groups, just as Jesus had modeled with the 12 (Mark 3:14; Luke 6:12-19).
Over 50 Biblical "one anothers" admonish us to be closely involved with a few others (small groups) in order that we might learn and imitate attitudes and behaviors that characterize God's household – the community of believers.
There are a number of small group opportunities for you to be a part of. Small groups at Bethel will help us with our vision to become a disciple making church. A place to belong, believe, become & be sent.Special groups for men, women, couples, youth and young adults will all be available.
Small Groups are an essential part of Bethel’s culture. In relation to our church motto of "Loving God, Loving People," they provide a major avenue for living out the values that Christ gives us as His followers (Matthew 22:37-39).
The Mission of Small Groups:
To honour God by helping people wholeheartedly follower Christ; fostering a sense of community and connection while cultivating spiritual growth.
What is a Small Group?
A Small Group is comprised of three or more people who meet together regularly for friendship and spiritual growth in Christ. Each group may have a different focus and format, but what they all have in common is at least one leader or facilitator who is intentional about helping people (whether Christian or pre-Christian) take one step closer on their journey to Christ through meaningful relationships.
Our most common type of Small Group follows a "sermon-based" or Bible study format. In these groups, members meet to discuss and ask questions about the weekend message and/or a Scripture passage or topic. As they talk through the lesson, participants find ways to personally and practically encourage each other to apply the Word to their lives. But we also have Small Groups that focus on many other interests and needs.
